Despite that, there are many rooms that reflect the Vanderbilts life at the estate. The gardens are magnificent, as is the conservatory. I spent 4 hours there and didn’t have time to walk down to the lake or to see the winery.

I highly recommend visiting over a 2 day period so that you can see everything. The food shops next to the estate provide good food at a variety of price points, and there is an excellent confectionary shop. I can’t say enough good things about this visit. Thousand of people attended. This year, due to unscientific Covid virtue signaling, the event was held virtually — yuck. The Bistro did not allow off-the-menu ordering only a three course prix fix dinner. The tour was audio only and we were herded like cattle through the mansion. On the positive side the decorations, and rooms were spectacular, and several rooms had live musicians playing Yuletide classics.

In BC we had a small group with a live guide of whom we could ask questions in a small group of less than 20 people for half the price. The pass allowed us to visit on Sunday Morning and we walked from the mansion to Antler Hill village along the beautiful French Broad River where we again confronted with Covid restrictions requiring reservations for wine tasting.

If you have never visited in the the heat of summer, you may be shocked that the Biltmore is not air conditioned. I highly recommend getting tickets as early in the morning as you can for this reason. The gardens, of course, are amazing in the summer, so it is a trade off with the heat.

Yes there is no place like Biltmore at Christmas, but you will miss the peak of the lovely gardens. I suggest touring the garden before your entry time if you have a later arrival time.

The two leading ladies, Cornelia and Edith, both left Biltmore and never returned. Just 10 years after her internationally famous wedding, Cornelia dabbled in the occult, left her husband and young sons, moved to Paris and took on a new identity. She married two more times, her second marriage being to a waiter 26 years her junior.

Edith, eventually remarried a US senator and moved to Rhode Island. Although she, of course, was stilk verywealthy, her new lifestyle was a drop in the bucket compared to the luxury she enjoyed at Biltmore. These ladies left for good and never returned. I wish the audio shared more about the personal lives of those who lived in it as it puts the whole home in proper perspective. CharlieV Chicago, IL 1, contributions. Amazing Estate!!! The visit to the Biltmore far exceeded my expectations!

The grounds are beautiful with nature trails, a conservatory, and beautiful gardens! The estate itself is huge and with the basic ticket, visitors are allowed to visit various room on three different floors. Upon entering, visitors are provided with an audio guide that allows you to visit at your own pace.

My only recommendation would be to book the estate tour as early as possible as some rooms become congested. The Biltmore, a wonderful American Treasure.

We were here in December which was a regret as flowers were not in bloom and the surrounding scenery while still beautiful was not at its best. Had it been a warmer time of year, there are many walking trails or bikes to rent if you start the day early. The great advantage of visiting in December however was seeing the house decorated for Christmas adding an extra magic to touring this spectacular house.

The audio tour is great lasting about 90 minutes and taking you through every room in the house. Every room is beautifully decorated, and it was fascinating learning about the history of the family and the building of the house. I was disappointed that tickets for the Christmas Candlelight Tour which are offered between pp and only during the holidays were sold out.

However, the experience of the normal tour was still great with all the rooms were decorated with Christmas lights, there were roaring fires in the fireplaces and there was even music playing in many of the rooms. Following our late afternoon tour, we headed back to Antler Village which is also decorated for Christmas with the Village Illuminations, and we did our free wine tasting. This was fun but not quite the romantic end to the day as I was expecting.

Definitely a factory feeling as you are ushered in and out of the tasting room but again, still enjoyable and fun. Showing results of 27, GoPlaces Weaverville, NC.
