There is a simple fix for this issue. After starting your computer normally, use “Run As Admin” to start any of the Office applications. The Configuration process will run one more time, but this time, the additional access rights will mean that the changes are saved when Windows closes normally. So after the configuration process completes, shut down the application normally and restart Windows normally do NOT simply use the Power button!

It should work now without the configuration process. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another. Any content of an adult theme or inappropriate to a community web site. Any image, link, or discussion of nudity.

Note that other Office apps open OK And this time, my computer was not shut down after I thought things were fixed with ‘Rohn’s’ suggestion. I was just away from it for about 6 hours. Sounds like you are now trying to run Excel in “Run as Admin” mode all of the time. That would be why you are getting the UAC prompt. You don’t need to. You only needed to run it in that mode once. Right click again on the Excel shortcut and see if you have a “check” that has turned on “Run As Admin” permanently.

If the Run as Admin option is “checked”, then uncheck it. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Since I updated to Win 10 from 7, I have this problem. Doesn’t matter which one I open for the first time after turning on my PC, it goes through the configuration process. Both apps work fine after that, until the next day, when I turn my computer back on. Also, the ‘Recently Used’ list from the Office Button does not retain the files I just recently used I am not a computer geek, so please use plain language.

If you run a Setup program without starting the Windows Installer service, you may receive the following error message:. The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. Contact your support personnel to verify that the windows Installer service is properly registered.

The Windows Installer service does not start if you clear the Load system services check box in the System Configuration utility. To use the Windows Installer service when system services are not loaded, you must start the service manually. To do this, follow these steps:.

Click Start , right-click Computer , and then click Manage. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. In the console tree, click Services and Applications , and then click Services. In the details pane, right-click Windows Installer , and then click Start. Create a new Userid. On a related note, I’ve got the same issue and have yet to resolve it.

I’ll try creating a new local user and hence profile and registry sub-tree, but if MS apps seriously have to have this much built in complexity, there is something fundamentally wrong with their design.

Why does Microsloth have to make everything so damn complicated and tied in so heavily with all their other monopolized products? I am just another user like yourself.

This is primarily a user driven forum. I am not sitting the problem computer, so I cannot see the symptoms. I have to GUESS at the cause of problem, and therefore the possible solution s based on the descriptions that the user provides. In response to our questions, Kart provided some additional information that suggested to me that the problem was “Windows Access Rights”. Sorry, that is not a simple issue.

As for MS providing “better support”, I agree. But they don’t. So deal with it, or like Kart, “vote with your feet At the other end from “MS Word”, if you want a simple “word processor”, use Notepad. It has no features, so it is very simple to use. Just type and hit enter at the end of each paragraph. No install required, it “comes with” Windows, free!
